EASTON, MARYLAND — The Town of Easton would sell a lot in its Mistletoe Hall commerce-business park to a seafood company for $546,040 under an ordinance on the Easton Town Council's agenda for Monday, Oct. 5, at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at the Easton Town Office, 14 S. Harrison Street.
Ordinance 866 would authorize the sale of Lot 9 at Mistletoe Hall to BSA Seafood LLC. The ordinance says the buyer plans to use the lot for the processing and cold storage of seafood, and it states the council's finding that the lot is no longer needed for public use. The agreement of sale in the council's meeting materials sets the purchase price at $546,040, requires a $5,000 deposit to escrow upon final execution, and has the buyer reimburse the town $3,525 for half of a capital charge at settlement. The agreement is contingent on the town enacting legislation approving the sale.
Under the ordinance, the town clerk must publicly advertise the sale at least 20 days before it takes place, and the ordinance would take effect 20 calendar days after the mayor approves it or the council passes it over a veto. The posted agenda lists the ordinance under legislation and does not record a vote.
Two other items deal with the town's streets. The town manager is asking the council to approve a $58,900 purchase of accessible pedestrian signals for nine intersections from MoboTrex, using a State of Maryland contract. A memo from Town Engineer Rick Van Emburgh says the signals give crossing information through audible tones, speech messages or vibrating surfaces to help blind, low-vision and deafblind people cross safely. The Sept. 21 memo puts the town's traffic camera capital project budget at $371,934.44. It says town procurement policy does not require public bidding when the town buys at a price negotiated under a state contract.
The town attorney has a discussion of automated license plate readers on the agenda. The meeting materials do not include a proposal or cost for the readers.
The council will also consider a public assembly event: a No Kings, get-out-to-vote rally planned for Saturday, Oct. 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the sidewalk next to the Wawa at Ocean Gateway and Dover Road. An Easton Police Department memo estimates 300 participants, says organizers will be told to stay off the roadway and not obstruct traffic, lists about $800 in officer overtime for four officers as waived, and recommends approval.
